When not in Mayfair, but in New York, I sometimes notice (as does Mr. Elk) that there are a lot of statues of naked ladies in the city. After awhile I begain to notice that these ladies seem to look alike, as if the sculptors were using the same model. Who was that? Evelyn Nesbit? (More on her anon) No, no I now find (thanks to Mr. Elk )that it was Audrey Munson...Who, as luck would have it, when not sporting about in the altogether for sculptors, was doing it, as it were, for directors. Yes, like Louise Brooks, who is a personal favourite of Mrs. P, she was in silent pictures...I think she was the first porn star...Is not art exciting?
"...In 1916, probably as a result of her exposure in California at the PPIE, Munson moved to California and entered the movies. In all Munson starred in four silent films. The first of these, Inspiration, the story of a sculptor's model, featured the first time that a woman took off all her clothes on film. Recreating scenes from classic paintings, the censors were reluctant to ban the film fearing they would also have to ban Renaissance art. The films were a box office success, with audiences eager to expand their new found interest in art. The reviews, however, were very polarized. Unfortunately, only a single print of one film, Purity has survived..."
ed. I'll bet they wanted to expand their interest in art...If she was good enough for Plum...
And since we have mentioned Louise Brooks...Here she is the last time she was in Mayfair, at an undisclosed location...Look up 'vixen' in the OED, and you will see...
Note: No actual vixens were harmed in the writing of this post.
Note: Someone just wrote to ask if that was a photo of bobgirrl and did I have her number...Sorry old chap, no and no...She sent me a number, but it turned out to be 867-5309...At least I don't think it's her photo, hey wait a minute...
